Pro Baseball: Troy J. Patton, Norfolk Tides
published Jul. 3, 2011Troy J. Patton pitched five innings, striking out three and allowing no earned runs Saturday in the Norfolk Tides's 4-0 loss to the Charlotte Knights. Patton graduated from Tomball High School.
Patton is a 2004 graduate of Tomball High School where he was a first-team high school all-American pitcher as a senior (2004). He was a ninth-round selection (274th overall) of the Houston Astros in the 2004 Major League Baseball draft. Patton spent four seasons (2004 to 2007) in the Houston system before he made his Major League debut with the Astros on Aug. 25 2007 going 0-2 with a 3.55 ERA in three appearances including two starts. On Dec. 12 2007 Patton was traded to the Baltimore Orioles along with four other prospects in the Miguel Tejada deal. Patton made 25 starts with Nolfolk in 2010 going 8-11 with a 4.43 ERA and he made one appearance out of the bullpen for Baltimore pitching a scoreless two-thirds on an inning in his big league return. A 2005 graduate of Tomball High School, Wiley played college baseball at Kansas State for three seasons (2006 to 2008). He was a career .306 hitter for the Wildcats with 13 home runs and 90 RBIs in 149 college games. Wiley was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 22nd round (659th overall) of the 2008 Major League Baseball draft. A 2005 graduate of Tomball High School, Russell was a second-team high school all-American as a senior. He played three seasons (2006 to 2008) of college baseball at the University of Texas appearing in 175 career games for the Longhorns with a .306 batting average. Russell was drafted by St. Louis in the fourth round (142nd overall) of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft but did not sign electing to return to Texas for his junior season. In 2008, Russell hit .296 with 19 home runs and 56 RBI, and he was named MVP of the Houston Regional of the NCAA tournament. He was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third round (93th overall) of the 2008 draft, and began his professional career with Ogden of the Pioneer League (Rookie). Wilfred Cha Halderman, of 412 South Bender Ave. # 5612, Humble, TX 77338, was arrested on alleged charges of ASSAULT CAUSES BODILY INJURY FAMILY VIOLENCE and assault causing bodily injury (family violence).
