Pro Baseball: Kyle Douglas Russell, Chattanooga Lookouts
Kyle Douglas Russell went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, one run and two walks in the Chattanooga Lookouts's 12-11 loss at the Tennessee Smokies on Thursday. Russell graduated from Tomball High School.
A 2005 graduate of Tomball High School, Russell was a second-team high school all-American as a senior. He played three seasons (2006 to 2008) of college baseball at the University of Texas appearing in 175 career games for the Longhorns with a .306 batting average. Russell was drafted by St. Louis in the fourth round (142nd overall) of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft but did not sign electing to return to Texas for his junior season. In 2008, Russell hit .296 with 19 home runs and 56 RBI, and he was named MVP of the Houston Regional of the NCAA tournament. He was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third round (93th overall) of the 2008 draft, and began his professional career with Ogden of the Pioneer League (Rookie). Russell was born June 27, 1986 in Tomball.
